3 Reasons Why Winter Is The Best Time To Get Your Wedding Dress

August 23, 2017

Having just had my final fitting before the Big Day in October, I decided that, amidst the feeling of extreme happiness to see The Dress progress from my imagination to me wearing it, winter is the best time to get The Dress sorted. This isn’t limited just to those people who have chosen to get theirs made, but for anyone needing to find a dress, this is the season to do it. Here’s why…

1. You’re likely to find The Dress much cheaper in winter

From about April a lot of wedding gown boutiques and designers with have sample sales where they will reduce to clear a lot of dresses to incredible and attainable prices - this includes bridesmaids and flowergirl dresses! Keep an eye on your favourite wedding designers by signing up to email newsletters and following them on social media so you’ll be the first to know when there’s a sale on.

2. Like a lot of us, you may carry additional ‘insulation’ in winter

I like to think I’m doing my vital organs a favour in winter by keeping them warm with some extra body fat. In all seriousness though, it’s a much better move to buy The Dress during the ‘heaviest’ time of year because it is so much simpler to alter it if you decrease in size, rather than extend it to fit more of you into it.

3. There’s plenty of time for alterations

With the assumption your wedding will take place between November and April you’ll have more than enough time to organise alterations for The Dress. Give yourself six weeks before the wedding day to have the final fitting so you don’t have a mad panic too close to the date.

Even if you don’t decide on The Dress in winter, at least begin your search for it. It’s so much less stressful shopping in winter, especially as you won’t be too hot and bothered, and your feet won’t be swollen so you can hit the bridal shoe shops too!
